Chicken Fried Toys Dime Novel Legends 1:18th Action Figures

Created by Chicken Fried Toys, LLC

Welcome to the Backerkit for the the Dime Novel Legends, presented by Chicken Fried Toys. Working with Boss Fight Studio (control art/tampos/consulting) and Smalljoes.com (distribution), these 3.75 to 4 inch action figures are a "little" slice of the Old West. Our figures are fully articulated modern style versions of Iconic Western Heroes and Legends. Each figure features at minimum 17 points of articulation, with removable coats, vest, belts, weapons and hats! These characters are compatible and play alongside with many modern action figure lines such as Boss Fight Studio's own Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S., Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Marauder Task Force, Zombie Lab, Animal Warriors of the Kingdom and more! The lineup is slated to have 11 characters in it's initial offering. Look for more information on our Facebook page as we develop new and exciting offerings for series 1.5 and series 2! Yee-Haw!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Also very different?
over 7 years ago – Sat, Oct 15, 2016 at 12:44:40 AM

The updates images of 3d prints were very well received yesterday, so we'll do more of the same today.  Included in this lot will be many of hats and headwear, so enjoy!

  • This hat will be used on the Create Your Own Cowboy, and Create Your Own Outlaw.  We wanted to do a hat style from the popular Westerns of the '50s and '60s, and I think this "fits" the bill.
  • This hat will appear first on the Prospector and again later in our lineup.  It's got a lot of character in it's design.
  • The Texas tall (and big) hat from the Sharpshooter and Badlands Vigilante figures.  It's a big hat for a bigger than life character.
  • The hat used on the Territories Lawman, and the Ranch Hand.  A plain hat with a bit of personal flair in the asymmetric curled brim.
  • The classic dent & pinch trail Stetson Boss of the Plains style hat.  Often imitated, never matched.  Lot's of miles under this hat used on the Trail Boss.
  • A hat with the brim as wide as the West Texas plains and a low crown to stay on in the wind, with Spanish silver conchos on the leather band, and a couple of custom dents in the peak.  It has all the flair!
  • The classic gentleman's Derby hat.  Adds a dash of uptown to the dusty streets of the Old West.

That's all the hats we'll cover for today.  Look for more images of 3d prints of our original parts again tomorrow!  Until then, like, share, and tweet to get us to our goals!

Thanks!  -CFT

And now for something completely different...
over 7 years ago – Fri, Oct 14, 2016 at 01:00:08 AM

I thought this might be interesting to the small number of people who read these daily updates and messages.  Today was a very fun day in that two excellent packages arrived.  The first (and larger one) will be shown later, but here are images of the 3D prints for the Garrison "KP" Trooper's new parts and some resized and reworked recent parts, along with the second part shown from series 2.

First up is the beer bottle that you will find in one of the Boot Hill Loot accs sets.  It needed to be smoothed a bit and sized up 10% from it's original file size.

Next is the print for the bucket/pail and handle that will come with the "KP" Trooper and also the Fire Brigadier.  Little note, the FB was supposed to have this originally, but it was cut for budgetary reasons.

Next up is the gold pan from the Prospector.  It needed to be made a little larger and a good bit thicker for the figure to be able to hold it in hand somewhat securely.

Next is the Kepi Hat that was to be used in series 2, but was moved up to go on the Kickstarter Exclusive Garrison "KP" Trooper added on by popular request.

The portrait for the Garrrison "KP" Trooper is next.  This is a modified version of the Sharpshooter head with different hair and no facial hair.  Quite the difference, yeah?

Next item(s) are the potatoes from our "KP" Trooper and the "Bucket O" Spuds" add-on pledge.  There are two slightly different versions, with one having a slightly smaller end to fit easily into the hands of the "KP" Trooper.  Can't peel 'em, if you can't hold 'em!

The next item shown is a different sculpt for the "Outlaw" pistol that has a more pronounced triangular detail under the barrel.  It gives the pistol a bit more flair, and style.

And last, but not least, is the "Carbine" rifle that will come with the "KP" Trooper and Ranch Hand figures.  There was a scaling issue with the first print where it was too small (due to a file mixup) and the trigger guard and hammer had to be beefed up to prevent breakage.

I hope you like this look inside the process of getting these figures up to snuff and ready for China and the tooling.  Still several more steps to go, but this is a major milestone.  A side note, these parts are sculpted at 104% to account for materials shrinkage during manufacture.

Thanks!  John @CFT

PS-  I almost forgot, here is a first ever look at one of the first parts cut for series 2!  It may find it's way onto the Create Your Own Cowboy if the tooling can be taken care of.  We'll see!  Enjoy the sneak peek!

Early morning Digital Details
over 7 years ago – Thu, Oct 13, 2016 at 05:13:00 AM

This early Thursday morning we'll be taking a look at the head for the Prospector figure.  This portrait shares a heavily modified likeness with the Vaquero figure, based on the appearance of my buddy Rogelio Casas/Killuminati.  He was gracious enough to step in when we asked, and so you see him here today.

Once again, all credit to our sculptor Dennis Chan for his hard work.  He is very, very good at capturing the look of a person via digital sculpt, and it shows through on every one of the portraits we have on our figures.

Thanks for taking a look this early morning, and please like, tweet, and share about our project to help see it fulfilled.

That is the equivalent of getting 4.5 figures "free" if we unlock everything. I think to anyone's math, that is a fair deal for supporting at this level. We are not in a position, to keep tweaking with the numbers and offerings and adding items on that have not been accounted for in the budget we have set up. That's a great way to slice your own throat and end up having to make items you don't have the money for and we will not be going down that road.

And make no mistake, the responsibility is on your shoulders to do it by sharing and promoting the KS campaign with friends and other collectors. We are doing our part by putting it up everywhere we can think of, and if you want to see this lineup of figures made, you will take a moment and do the same and keep doing it throughout the remainder of the KS campaign. Do not wait on someone else to get what you say you want made, rather jump in and make it happen yourself. That's what crowd-funding is supposed to be all about!

There's not really any excuse left right now to not pledge if you really do support the lineup and want to see it made. It's nice that you want to tell us how much you like the idea and figures, but without your financial support, they go back to being a very expensive idea again instead of a lineup waiting to manufactured.

A few brief words for Sunday!

Guys (and gals), just wanted to point out that we've passed the 2/3rds mark for our initial funding goal!  This is great news, but there is no time to be slack.  Get out there and share, like, tweet, and re-post all that info with your friends, family and any hobby groups you are in!  Don't rely on someone else to get us to these unlocks, when you can help reach the goals with us!

As for our regular morning activity, the Digital Details will be necessarily brief as I have to head to the print shop to pick up flyers to send for mail out.  Yep, totally old-school promo!

As you can see, this morning we have the portrait for the Prospector.  What you might not know is that this is the same basic head used on the Vaquero with with all new hair/facial hair details.  It's amazing what tweaking those things will do for a look!

As I mentioned previously, the likeness for this guy is my Joe-Bro Rogelio Casas/Killuminati.  He was kind enough to loan us his mug!  You can look for other people you may know later on in this wave, and throughout the remainder of the line!  Who knows, maybe it could be you!

Once again, thank you for your continued support, and participation in our project!  We look forward to hearing feedback from you all once these figures are here and in everyone's hands!
