Chicken Fried Toys Dime Novel Legends 1:18th Action Figures

Created by Chicken Fried Toys, LLC

Welcome to the Backerkit for the the Dime Novel Legends, presented by Chicken Fried Toys. Working with Boss Fight Studio (control art/tampos/consulting) and Smalljoes.com (distribution), these 3.75 to 4 inch action figures are a "little" slice of the Old West. Our figures are fully articulated modern style versions of Iconic Western Heroes and Legends. Each figure features at minimum 17 points of articulation, with removable coats, vest, belts, weapons and hats! These characters are compatible and play alongside with many modern action figure lines such as Boss Fight Studio's own Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S., Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Marauder Task Force, Zombie Lab, Animal Warriors of the Kingdom and more! The lineup is slated to have 11 characters in it's initial offering. Look for more information on our Facebook page as we develop new and exciting offerings for series 1.5 and series 2! Yee-Haw!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Updated items for Add-Ons!
over 7 years ago – Sun, Oct 09, 2016 at 12:30:45 AM

We're going to do things a little bit different tonight and showcase the four new add-on options listed today on the KS campaign.  I just got all the final pics a bit ago, and thought it worth special note.

Shown here are the Garrison "KP" Trooper figure, and a couple of add-on accessory sets.  The Trooper is unlimited and available to anyone who pledges.  Simply add the additional costs for each of your choices to your preexisting pledge and you're set.  No extra postage costs need to be added at this time, and you will actually select this item at the end in the Backerkit survey.

This trooper has four brand new sculpted parts, including the premier of the first part from what was going to be series 2, the Kepi Hat.  His head is a newly modified sculpt, and the bucket and potatoes are also new.  There is also a weapons pack available for him, and a bucket o' spuds for anyone wanting to add something special to their displays at home.

Additionally, this Trooper is available in a 3 pack for easy army-building.  Simply add the total for the trooper 3 pack to your preexisting pledge and you are set.  You will actually add them in the Backerkit survey at the end!

We will resume the standard message format tomorrow, same bat-time, same bat-channel!

Thanks!  John @CFT

Mornin' blargh-blargh, stayed up all night blargh-blargh...

What a long night.  Let's skip the recap and get on to some Digital Details.

The portrait that you see below if for the Marshal figure.  Under those manly eyebrows, sweet baby-mullet, and handlebar moustache X-treme is the meek but friendly visage of my partner Paul.  Paul was shown earlier this week as the Head Honcho you may remember.  A good digital artist (Dennis Chan) can change the entire look of a sculpt, simply by making these kinds of tweaks.

As you can see from the portrait, this figure is the prototypical Western lawman.  The figure is the flagship of the lineup and pledges for his level so far clearly bear this out.  Take a look at the entire figure in the KS details and enjoy!

Have a good Saturday!  This KS is now exactly one week old!

Hello? Hello? Is this mic on?

Ending: day the 6th.

In a slightly more timely manner, here are the numbers and thoughts at the closing of day 6 of our little Kickstarter campaign.  We had some good gains today thanks to a hearty and robust discussion in the Facebook group about everyone doing their bit as fans to get this project fully funded and moving into stretch goals ASAP!  You can't wait or count on someone else to do it for you!

Total Backers - 270 even. How does that keep happening?  We are up a solid 20 from last night! Excellent! By my projections, at this rate we need about 450+ more to move through just about everything,  so "like", "share", "tweet" and "instagram" us to your hearts content. We are on all those.

Current Pledge Total - $78,148, up about $5K

Funding total percentage - 62%, up a solid 4% in one DAY!

Referrals - Facebook still leads with 34.3%, but that is falling quickly. Other sources are paying off, so keep it up! Instagram, Tweet, etc..!!!

Most Popular Reward - "All-IN!" is up to 113 backers (a whopping 42%) with "Gather the Posse" gaining quickly with 56 (21%).

Average pledge - Falling at $289, but that is expected with the addition of the "Gather the Posse" level.

Finally for this evening, let's look at the control art (again by Andrew of Boss Fight Studio) for the Saloon Bartender.  He's been a fan favorite from the start, and features a portrait based on the likeness of my best fried Casey.  The Saloon Bartender comes with a couple of very unique accessories.  First is a barrel that can be displayed both as a beer barrel (in it's cradle, with brass tap) and a commodities barrel (with a "pickles" lid)!  The lid for this piece flips easily from one side to the other.  Also included is a crystal clear beer mug, with a transparent yellow plug insert that has sculpted foam painted white on the top!

As you can see, we had to drop the weapons to account for the additional costs of adding the multi-part barrel shown in the colored digital renders below.  I think it was worth it, don't you?

All in all, he's a very fun figure with a lot of character, who should add a great deal of display value to your dioramas and shelves in your collection!

Thanks once again (you'll get tired of hearing it eventually) for supporting our project, and being a part of the first wave of Dime Novel Legends!

Three hours sleep...LET'S DO THIS!
over 7 years ago – Thu, Oct 06, 2016 at 09:43:57 PM

Okey-dokey.  Today's "Digital Details" take a look at the portrait for the Head Honcho figure.  It's a likeness of my partner and friend Paul so don't hold that against him.  While you can see the details very clearly in these images, what is not shown is the 5 o'clock shadow that will be applied by tampo on the face.

Tampo applications have largely replaced hand painting in the action figure industry these days, and they are only getting better.  A great number of the details on Boss Fight Studio Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. series 1 are also tampos, which the production factory excels at.

Another thing you may not be aware of is that Paul's noggin' is also used for the Marshal with different eyebrows, facial hair, and hair style/length.  Pretty amazing what a difference that makes in a portrait sculpt.

Okay, there ends today's preview and lesson.  One word to take away from this is the use of the term "portrait" instead of head-sculpt.  It's an industry standard name referring to a likeness of this type.

Have a good day, and please be sure to like & share on Facebook, Re-tweet on Twitter, and hashtag it up on Instagram.  Let's get to those stretch goals by the weekend!

Pardon me lady, your update is here.
over 7 years ago – Thu, Oct 06, 2016 at 04:50:40 AM

Sorry it's past midnight, and I'm just getting to this.  Stayed up very late to finally watch X-Men Apocalypse, so NO REGRETS!

Here we are closing in on the end of day 5 and things are looking pretty good. Obviously, we need to be further down the road to full funding and unlocking some stretch goals, but I am not complaining. Steady growth is solid and today's numbers are pretty decent:

Total Backers - 250 even, up 23 from last night. Excellent!  By my math, at this rate we need about 500 more so "like", "share", "tweet" and "instagram" us to your hearts content.  We are on all those.

Current Pledge Total - $73,500

Funding total percentage - 58%

Referrals - Facebook still leads with 35.3%, but that is falling quickly. Other sources are paying off, so keep it up!

Most Popular Reward - "All-IN!"  and up to 108 backers with "Gather the Posse" gaining quickly.

Now, on to the next piece of control art done by good old Andrew at Boss Fight Studio. We look at the control art for the Trail Boss.  This is my personal favorite, as it's my own personal figure done just the way I wanted.  I based certain elements of his gear off of different items I've liked from Western movies and TV shows I've seen and the long scruff of beard is what I was wearing when I met Kristi (even though she gets made if I wear it now).

Final presentation art for the Trail Boss:

As you can see from control art turns, to final digital presentation art, the look remains largely intact for this one.  I love the color of the chaps as they match a brand new pair of Wells Lamont leather works gloves, which I prefer to wear over all others as cold weather gear.

Well, I suppose that's all for this late night non-event.  We have 37 days to go, which is a good bit of time, but that doesn't lessen the urgency to get to full funding and start working on stretch goals.  Please, if you like the project, take a moment to like & share us on Facebook, re-tweet our updates on Twitter (@chickenfriedtoy), and help us get moving on Instagram (chicken_fried_toys).  I don't want to beg or pester, but I sure will if it gets us to our initial funding goal that much faster.  I don't want to make the minimum, I want to make it all, and that's going to take your continued support!

Thanks, and see you in the AM (or a few hours from now, whichever is sooner!)!
